Chief Monte B. Keady

Thank you for spending your time to visit our website. As Fire Chief of the Burney Fire Protection District, it gives me a sense of satisfaction that you are showing an interest in our organization. Although I have been a part of the Fire Service all over the Western United States for over 35 years, I feel the greatest sense of pride when I come home. This is primarily because the people at Burney Fire have a proud history of serving our community that predates my arrival in early 2017, and that service and dedication remains evident as we move into the future.

Emergency response is a complex and demanding trade. Just to learn the basics it can take many hours of training and several years of experience. But not every situation is the same. Sometimes we are called to the scene of something very different from our normal operations. During these times the mission and values of Burney Fire, developed by the District leaders, help guide our people to make the right decisions.  The mission statement: “We Respond to the Public with Professionalism, Pride, and Compassion” reminds us of how to act. Further, no matter the outcome of our decision, our Fire District’s values demand that, “We constantly work to make ourselves better tomorrow than we are today.” These words summarize what we do, but it is the men and women of the Burney Fire Protection District that respond to all types of calls and embrace these words on a daily basis that continue to make a difference in our community.

Sooner or later nearly every one of us experiences a serious life event that requires someone to call 911. In fact, this occurs over 1,000 times a year in our community. When it does, my expectation as the Fire Chief is that the actions of our people will provide comfort by reassuring those in need that their family member, their home, and their business will have the greatest chance of being there for them tomorrow.  To do this, our equipment must remain prepared and our facilities fully capable so that our people can have the tools to act decisively while still showing compassion.
